Sex-ational Essential Oils. Intimacy & Aphrodisiacs

People have been using essential oils to increase sensuality and libido for thousands of years.  The idea of using certain essential oils for sensuality and an increased interest and enjoyment of sex is not a new concept.

Ancient Egyptian writers and artists often created sensual images by referring to scents and fragrances in the context of sexual relationships. And the Song of Songs in the Bible refers to scents, perfumes and anointing oils as part of its sensual imagery.

Loss of libido can have many causes. Sometimes it could be physical such as thyroid issues or medications and other times, it can be mental or emotional. Stress often being the greatest contributor, issues within relationships, fatigue, depression and the list goes on.

But there’s no need to hide under the covers with your grandma socks on. Here’s where essential oils enter.

As human beings, we’re strongly impacted by fragrance and aroma. Our limbic system is located at the back of our brain and it’s associated with memory, emotion, and learning. Thus, it’s easy to understand how smelling essential oils can have a powerful impact on us physically and emotionally. Aroma has proven to arouse the senses, create a more pleasant environment, and increase desire.

We’re not just biochemically linked to feel aroused through our senses. Essential Oils reduce stress and elevate mood. This in itself can promote increased feelings of sensuality and energy. Think about it, the more relaxed you are the easier it is to get in the “mood”, right? So, Essential Oils really have two roles in increasing libido.

Essential Oils with Aphrodisiac Properties:
*Always remember to dilute when using topically, otherwise you may experience an ouchie in an important area.

1. Black Pepper
This is a warming, spicy oil that strengthens circulation. It can stimulate the appetite, literally and sexually.

2. Cinnamon
This is another warming oil, the scent is sweet and spicy. It improves circulation and blood flow.

3. Sandalwood
This essential oil promotes emotional openness.  It’s an exotic scent – who doesn’t love the sound of that 😉

4. Ylang Ylang
Ylang Ylang is a floral scent, it increases sexual desire, encourages attraction and supports the circulatory system.  This is one of the most powerful essential oil aphrodisiacs.

5. Rose
This essential oil is good for the heart, emotionally and physically. It improves and supports the circulatory system.

6. Jasmine
Jasmine enhances mood and energy. This essential oil is particularly good for women.

7. Patchouli
One of my personal favs, this essential oil has a musky, woodsy smell. It improves the spirits and balances the libido.

8. Ginger
Ginger is a sweet, warm oil that supports the circulatory system. It increases openness in both men and women.

Whilst these are top aphrodisiac oils, it’s worth keeping in mind that different oils will appeal to different women.

Some will love floral scents, such Ylang Ylang, Jasmine or Rose.

Whilst some will feel energised by spicy scents, like Cinnamon, or energising scents, like Lemon or Orange.

More masculine essential oils (these are for the men!) are Sandalwood, Patchouli and Vetiver.

5 Ways You Can Use These Essential Oils For Romance

1. Aromatically, using a diffuser

2. Topically, as a therapeutic massage. Remember dilute the essential oils with a carrier oil such as sweet almond or coconut oil

3. On your sheets, adding only a few drops

4. In the bath, adding only a few drops to help create a relaxed and romantic atmosphere. Don’t use Black Pepper, Cinnamon or Ginger as they’re warming oils. Instead, choose Rose, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Lavender or Wild Orange

5. Blended with a carrier oil like jojoba or apricot kernel oil and made into a delicious massage oil. Perfect for first course.

So tonight, get your oils out, put some croony tunes on, and create an intimate, sensual experience with your essential oils.
