Spiced orange and grapefruit salad

Food need not be complicated to taste amazing. Many of my favourite recipes or flavour combinations come from few key ingredients, high-quality proteins and a little loving care.

The way I cook for my family and friends is seasonal and produce driven. The food is simple and nourishing and not quite like the sense of gastronomy that can be conveyed over a social media account – although I do have my moments with those too.

My dream is that children will be brought into kitchens and gardens again, as they used to be, taught as I was how to grow, harvest and cook their own food. This starts with us, me and you.

spiced blood orange and grapefruit salad

  • 2 oranges
  • 1 grapefruit
  • ½ cup Kalamata olives
  • 1/4 medium red onion, sliced thinly into rings


  • 2 tbs olive oil
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp cumin


Remove the peel and pith from the oranges and grapefruit with a sharp knife.

Slice into rounds about half a centimeter thick. Place on a serving platter and scatter with olives. In a jar shake all dressing ingredients and pour over the oranges and grapefruit.
