When I was a little kid, I would go and stay and my Nan’s apartment and her and my Pop would take my sister and I to McDonalds. We went about 6 times per year.
Our order of choice 100% of the time was 6 nuggets and fries and a chocolate thickshake.
The mere thought of what goes into ALL of these choices today makes me want to gag.
It’s amazing how when you make a conscious choice to eat real, whole, nourishing food, you can make better versions of pretty much any crapola junk-food-item there is out there, and this Dairy-Free Chocolate Super-Food Thickshake is a great example.
It’s SUPER because it’s made chocolatey using raw cacao powder (I use Loving Earth).
Cacao is jam packed with antioxidants, magnesium and bliss nutrients that can help keep you energised, healthy and happy. It’s made from an heirloom variety of Criollo Amazonico Cacao, grown in the Amazon rainforest of Satipo, Peru. It contains up to twice the amount of antioxidants of traditional Cocoa Powder made from roasted beans.
Make one for yourself this week and see what you think.
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tbs raw cacao powder
- 1 cup almond milk (or rice/oat milk – I use Pure Harvest which you can find in supermarkets)
- 1 cup ice-cubes
Blend in a high-speed food processor (I use Vitamix because they blend the mix so fine!)
Tamp the mix down or scrape down the sides as needed.
Get yourself a THICK straw and enjoy that baby!
