This is to the woman with the newsletter list.
To the woman with the existing business.
To the woman who has neither of those things but who has a new message she wants to share that isn’t her old one.
To the woman who has tied her identity to what she’s already created while feeling tugged by something new.
To the the woman who’s trying to work out how to IN-TEG-RATE the new message into what she already has.
To the woman who wishes that no-one would notice that she’s changing.
Or even just that she didn’t have to notice anybody noticing it.
To the woman who has a vision but is shit-scared to share it
To the women who can see the vision but is shit-scared to OWN IT.
To the woman who just doesn’t want to upset anybody. Lose anybody.
To the woman who’s head is telling her to be afraid that someone may not like what she’s doing.
To the woman who may be dimming the flame on anything that is possible, because of anything potentially difficult.
This is for you
When I started writing this message, it was an email to someone and it was private. I was sending it to one beautiful woman I know and want to see rise with doTERRA.
This woman has had a business that is not doTERRA for years. It’s how we met. She’s been totally badass in that business, is an expert in calling people to her for that business offering and has built a tribe of women who have picked up what she’s put down for years across the globe.
And so I am going to write to her and for her today, the woman who is finding it tricky to navigate her unconscious mind thought-stream and the battle it has her in as she navigates from one business to the next.
The big scary change.
You may not have the business change to navigate, but maybe you’re struggling to anchor into your new message, the change, the new you.
(Yes loves, oh wow, we change. We do. Can you see?)
Because I see the struggle. Here’s my friend… and she has this thing, nudging her to take notice. In fact, it’s flashing neon signs saying ‘I’m over here. OVER HEEERRRREEEE’ I’m waiting for you. I’m ready. I’m big. Where are you?
Or even, ‘Why aren’t you showing up for me?’
It is a vision. Her vision. The REAL vision (not the pretend one we feel more altruistic in sharing).
It encompass some type of freedom. Freedom of time, of energy, of pressure and freedom to accept abundance in all areas. Health, Philanthropy and Wealth.
Freedom for family. For LIFE.
And my friend can see the vehicle to get to this vision is doTERRA.
And, I can intuitively feel my friend was/is going through much of the same experiences and feelings I did when I adjusted my business from what it was to what it is and what it will be.
At times, with change comes inner conflict and while we all experience our own intricacies within this, I’m sure there’s a shit-tonne of similar experiences we’re having too.
‘You’re’ listening to this now or reading this now and not just ‘her’, because as with so much of what I now do, I realised If I can duplicate this message, I may help more than one person.
If this information allows just one more person to transition more easily to meet their true vision, then I’m happy.
Maybe, when you hear it, you’ll think ’Aahhhh someone else.’ or ‘Yeah, me too’.
And often there’s so much comfort in that. Isn’t there?
I did. not. know what network marketing or direct selling was until after I had started my doTERRA business. Yeah loves. True story.
I did think that I was starting a new ‘arm’ to my business, of course.
I did think that I would be paid for my efforts in commission.
But as I had been working with online course creation and affiliate earnings, I wasn’t quite across the grand scale of the direct selling business. Of Network marketing, or of the deadset Unicorn that is doTERRA just yet.
side note: For those of you who’ve never worked within any other direct selling business, as I hadn’t and maybe you are listening to this podcast for the first time, I can now with full knowledge share with you that every part of the structure within doTERRA is better than any I have ever seen within any industry. Financial and Organisational.
It’s hands-down better than any I’ve seen in the corporate world I spent years in.
I used to be on a great base salary and also earning great commissions through that corporate world only 5 years ago. In fact, I used a commission cheque once for the entire deposit+some on my first investment property in Melbourne.
Sweet Holy Frankincense Oil.
Here we have the absolute highest quality product in the world, attached to the best financial opportunity that exists within the market, and a conscious eco-system that’s unlike anything you’ve ever known existed. I promise you it’s not some tacked-on lip-service like what you’ll find at the Big Four.
doTERRA has it all and is giving it back to the world. But, because we’ve been subjected to bullshit in business for so long, and because we absolutely have a hangover from the depression era that tells us we must suffer publicly for our riches (through hard slog, time spent away from family, deep sacrifice of personal dreams etc) this business can be hard to believe at times.
However one day I know we’ll look back and realise that this company was the bravest and wisest. A trailblazing disrupter that wrapped the biggest, warmest arms around the world and truly made a difference.
AND inspired other companies to do the same.
So, my friend with the existing business and existing list and existing relationships may feel stuck even though her soul is like ‘You need to do this’, because her head is like ‘Randy, Brandy and Sandy are going to think you sold out. We simply must create damage control before we even start. So let’s play small first.’
So my friend (and that is you), please hear me.
This opportunity is grand, and it’s going to get grander, but it calls for you to be so open to your vision and anchored to it.
We have seasons in our lives, just like the four we have each and every 12 months. Clinging onto ‘old us’s’ is like trying to wear our favourite wooly jumpy in the middle of Summer.
Uncomfortable and pointless.
Dabbling is not the friend of your business right now.
Integration is also a sucky thing for your vision and will absolutely dim your potential.
I remember when I first decided to ‘dabble’ in sharing doTERRA, I created some Instagram posts and some copy that was designed to – in my head – ease people into the idea that I was adding another ‘stream’ to my business.
I began by thinking dabbling in doTERRA would offend my tribe less.
I was integrating doTERRA into my existing business and in all honesty just, like, hoping no-one would notice.
It took me 2 months to realise something BIG was amiss and I felt the opposite of what I desired to feel.
My dabbling snippets of doTERRA and trying to gently gently, without offending, pissing people off, or triggering anybody, gently nudge this new message in my peeps eyeballs was beginning to feel super disingenuous.
No it wasn’t feeling disingenuous. It was exactly that.
I been to see the true potential for the business and my soul was telling me to go for it, but my head was saying ‘What if they don’t like it’ (which my Ego took as ‘What if they don’t like ME!).
Or the biggest fear of all.
What if they REJECT ME?
How will I survive?
So all I ended up doing was lying to myself and lying to my tribe by omission. (I am so sorry loves).
The whole time me trying not to look icky in their eyes had me feeling icky in my soul and they knew it. They always know it. Humans have a great bullshit detector for this stuff.
Ripping the bandaid.
Liz Gilbert says in Big Magic: “It seems to me that the less I fight my fear, the less it fights back. If I can relax, fear relaxes, too.”
So I relaxed.
I sent an email out to my entire newsletter list that I am pretty sure had the headline ‘You might want to unsubscribe’.
Yep. When I ripped that band-aid, I risked pulling all my hair out, and suffering the pain as a consequence.
But, I was honest and truthful for the first time.
I shared the following information.
“I’ve been introduced to essential oils and I LOVE them. I and my family have had really wonderful personal experiences with them.
They align with what I care about and stand for and I am going to create a business from them. My message is going to focus on essential oils from now and going forward.
You may want to stick around and be a part of that. But you also may not and that’s fine. You can unsubscribe from my list today.
Please know that I have loved sharing my path with you over the previous months/years, and I am honoured that you’ve been a reader/supporter/tribe member here, but if you decide to unsubscribe today, I understand and I send you love.”
Nothing and everything.
I did have a few people unsubscribe from my list, but in the time since I anchored into my vision, more have subscribed.
Hundreds more. A thousand more. More than a thousand more.
Because when you open your vision up and you call it in, you call more people connected with your message in too.
So to my friend and to those this is relevant to, If you’re considering how to integrate doTERRA into your existing business, I’ve gotta’ warn you, you’re going to weaken the spark and the bullseye of your vision just ran backwards a few hundred yards.
And here is the absolute T R U T H.
When you can be open and anchored and honest about your vision, your aim becomes true. You eventually meet your vision head on. You live it. You become it. And you know what happens then?
You’ll have freedom to start, or go back to, re-meet all of those other things you loved to do. (Though you will probably have new visions by then. Change even in that is inevitable)
But if you do go back, you can now do those things and never feel constricted or pressured to monetise your passions, because the platform of doTERRA will allow you the financial freedom to create without scarcity.
So, Don’t dabble. Don’t integrate. Just be honest. Be true. Aim true.
When you wrap your message in cotton wool for fear of being bruised you muffle your message and no-one can hear you properly.
You have a whole audience awaiting you to be clear with them just as you would respect if someone was clear with you right?
Give them the chance to support or to decide otherwise, but at least give them the choice based on a real vision. They and you will be better off for it.
If you trust me with nothing, trust me with that.
Tara Bliss, friend and business co-collaborator, wrote this to our team after I posted this article. I wanted to add her words to this now:
“I love the strength that it takes to communicate as strongly as this. It makes me feel strong when I read it. And truly, it’s also affirming to my own personal journey –which for me (and it looks different for everyone), looked like stepping back from blogging and online publishing — because what I publish is almost always of very personal and tender nature — to build this and give Team Bliss all of my juice.
NOW the sweet spot comes, where I can explore other places my soul wants to go, whilst helping others I love ( YOU LOT ) create the freedom I experience, and whilst being supported by one of the most incredible opportunities available to us – residual income. I truly believe, for most of us, if we ask ourselves the question, residual income is more important to us and our families than we may be allowing ourselves to believe, or receive. Let’s own and claim that as a desire for ourselves whilst knowing that THESE OILS bring all of this into being for us. We’re so lucky.”
And here, from John O’Donahue. The Question Holds the Lantern.
“If you could imagine the most incredible story ever, it would be less incredible than the story of being here. And the ironic thing is that story is not a story, it is true. It takes us so long to see where we are. It takes us even longer to see who we are. This is why the greatest gift you could ever dream is a gift that you can only receive from one person. And that person is you yourself. Therefore, the most subversive invitation you could ever accept is the invitation to awaken to who you are and where you have landed.
Plato said in The Symposium that one of the greatest privileges of a human life is to become midwife to the birth of the soul in another. When your soul awakens, you begin to truly inherit your life. You leave the kingdom of fake surfaces, repetitive talk and weary roles and slip deeper into the true adventure of who you are and who you are called to become. The greatest friend of the soul is the unknown. Yet we are afraid of the unknown because it lies outside our vision and our control. We avoid it or quell it by filtering it through our protective barriers of domestication and control. The normal way never leads home.
Once you start to awaken, no one can ever claim you again for the old patterns. Now you realise how precious your time here is. You are no longer willing to squander your essence on undertakings that do not nourish your true self; your patience grows thin with tired talk and dead language. You see through the rosters of expectation which promise you safety and the confirmation of your outer identity. Now you are impatient for growth, willing to put yourself in the way of change. You want your work to become an expression of your gift. You want your relationship to voyage beyond the pallid frontiers to where the danger of transformation dwells. You want your God to be wild and to call you to where your destiny awaits.
You have come out of Plato’s Cave of Images into the sunlight and the mystery of colour and imagination. When you begin to sense that your imagination is the place where you are most divine, you feel called to clean out of your mind all the worn and shabby furniture of thought. You wish to refurbish yourself with living thought so that you can begin to see. As Meister Eckhart says: Thoughts are our inner senses. When the inner senses are dull and blurred, you can see nothing in or of yourself; you become a respectable prisoner of received images.
Now you realise that ‘eternal vigilance is the price of liberty’ and you undertake the difficult but beautiful path to freedom. On this journey, you begin to see how the sides of your heart that seemed awkward, contradictory and uneven are the places where the treasure lies hidden. You begin to become true to yourself. And as Shakespeare says in Hamlet: To thine own self be true, then as surely as night follows day, thou canst to no man be false.
The journey shows you that from this inner dedication you can reconstruct your own values and action. You develop from your own self-compassion a great compassion for others. You are no longer caught in the false game of judgement, comparison and assumption. More naked now than ever, you begin to feel truly alive. You begin to trust the music of your own soul; you have inherited treasure that no one will ever be able to take from you. At the deepest level, this adventure of growth is in fact a transfigurative conversation with your own death. And when the time comes for you to leave, the view from your death bed will show a life of growth that gladdens the heart and takes away all fear.”
